Flying into Derby this week is Hollywood superstar Jean Claude Van Damme. He will be shooting his latest action movie, UFO, in the city and over 200 people are being cast to play as extras. UFO is about how society turns on itself during an extra terrestrial invasion. The movie is described by Dominic Burns, the filmmaker, who is from Derby, as, “a thriller movie, with a dark humour edge.”
Burns, who has written and is directing the multi-million pound movie, says they are looking for extras to be cast in a nightclub scene. He says that he wants to see local people getting involved in the production. Burns has directed several films, including, The Last Seven, How to Stop Being a Loser and Airborne, which will be released later this year.
He has worked with many famous Hollywood actors including Mark Hammill, most famous for playing Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars movies. He has also worked with Richard E. Grant and Martin Kemp. About setting the movie in Derby he says, “when writing scripts, I am always thinking about what it would be like setting a movie around my hometown.”
The locations of filming will not be disclosed but residents are sure to see the cast and crew around the city over the coming months. People interested in becoming an extra should email: ufo@hotmail.co.uk.
